Posted by Data in Cortex Command - May 28th, 2008

Here’s another interview of me by the indie scene scoopmaker Tim W. at IndieGames.com. This one is more about the development than the game itself, which complements the previous interview well.

The big news Tim breaks is that we now have a very experienced guy actually working on the Mac OSX port of Cortex Command! After many years in the ‘big’ games industry, Chris Kruger recently left his position at Rockstar Games to pursue freelance programming on his own. We are very fortunate to have him working with us on our project, and all you Mac users out there will soon be battling it out on your native platform!

Chris is one of those guys who actually enjoy porting games, so there’s a good chance other target platforms will be within our reach as well. Stay tuned…

Wow. You got a guy from Rockstar Games PORTING your game?

Nice. I’m loving seeing CC get more credit, and it’s only going to get even more. Can’t wait.

  5. Ghost Bear - # May 28th, 2008 at 11:19 am

    Mercy-Jesus on a Christ-stick.
    Dude, sweet.
IF YOU MAKE A CLONE CRAWL ONTO ANOTHER IT KINDA LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING SCANDALOUS BEFORE THEY BOTH EXPLODE FROM FUNKY COLLISIONS.
There we go, perhaps the controversy will add some extra fame.

  9. Coilgunner - # May 28th, 2008 at 12:18 pm

Sweet!!! I CANT WAIT FOR THE FINAL GAME!

  10. MrGreed - # May 28th, 2008 at 12:45 pm

Is he gonna do something else than porting it?

  11. brinlarden - # May 28th, 2008 at 12:45 pm

“other tasks to get done, or just lazily surfing the web. The classic problems of working from home, basically.”

the downfall of us all :P

  14. Tomaster - # May 28th, 2008 at 3:37 pm

    Awesome, Hiro will be happy.

  15. Kokits - # May 28th, 2008 at 3:40 pm

It’s great to see other ports in the works, let’s continue to expand the CC universe!

    -Coded One

  16. Aspect - # May 28th, 2008 at 3:49 pm

other ports besides mac? not that I play anything but on PC, but a port to xbox or more likely ps3 (with it’s higher processing power) would be really big for the game’s community

  17. Octyl - # May 28th, 2008 at 3:58 pm

Yes! I live at two different houses, one of which has a piece of crap pc (Can hardly run solitaire) and a mac. Now i can play it at both houses!

  18. Tobeh - # May 28th, 2008 at 4:44 pm

Good to see things are always moving forward on CC

  19. Electroclan - # May 28th, 2008 at 6:06 pm

    DataRealms is really growing. :)

  20. MayheM - # May 28th, 2008 at 6:55 pm

With the piss poor selection of games that Mac users have nowadays, this should give them something to look forward to at last. Data, you deserve all the fame you get. You’ve put seven years of hard work into something that has brought happiness to so many people, including me. I hope that you get all the exposure you deserve, and I believe that one day people will look back on CC with the same respect given to Wolfenstein 3D or Dune 2: as one of the most groundbreaking and influential games of all time.

  21. roy-g-biv - # May 28th, 2008 at 6:55 pm

Rockstar member porting CC to mac?!?!
    That’s just crazy!

Also, is he an official member of DRL now, or is he just a volenteer?

  22. lmsyhmic - # May 28th, 2008 at 7:07 pm

    Generic Positive Comment.

No flame, but seriously… “Wheres the beef?”

  23. PlasmaNova - # May 28th, 2008 at 7:16 pm

AT least mac users will get to play something fun for once!!

(But I still wish I could play the games for mac on that lugaru website) :(

  24. Grif - # May 28th, 2008 at 8:14 pm

He’s a FORMER Rockstar employee. Who is probably porting the game just to port it; not as a part of the DRL team.

  25. zalo - # May 28th, 2008 at 8:34 pm

Thats awesome. This will quell all the angry Mac users.

  26. zalo - # May 28th, 2008 at 8:44 pm

    Wait a second….

When will Cortex Command be completed?
    Dunno.
    Estimates?
    About mid-2006
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
    What?!

  27. Tomaster - # May 28th, 2008 at 9:01 pm

He said that around mid-2006 he went with CC as his full time job.

  28. zalo - # May 28th, 2008 at 9:19 pm

No, he didn’t. he’s talking about LUA in that interview
and he mentioned the former Rockstar mac porter in the interview as well.

Anyway, look at the link for the interview,
it is dated May 2008. (…/blog/2008/05/…)

  33. TSR - # May 29th, 2008 at 7:24 am

Seriously Data, this project has jumped massively recently, and looks even more promising than I originally expected.

    Great work :D

  34. Octyl - # May 29th, 2008 at 8:00 am

Damn… When will we get that update about clutter being fixed? I’m happy Data’s getting more notice, but all these interviews are getting in the way of our Thursday updates!

  35. Foaboegik - # May 29th, 2008 at 8:13 am

    Grats! Data!

  36. Pawnda - # May 29th, 2008 at 9:52 am

  39. wouter - # May 29th, 2008 at 2:37 pm

  40. Aspect - # May 29th, 2008 at 4:02 pm

    @26
    “Estimates?
    About mid-2006″

when I saw that I laughed, thought it was a joke, then I finished the sentence and realized it was just an introductory clause. Finish reading sentences before you jump to conclusions zalo.
Too bad there isn’t much new info in this update… :P

  41. -E-S- - # May 29th, 2008 at 6:10 pm

a *sniffle*…….mac?……..port?……….. im dreaming. thats the only explainaton :D

  42. Seleia - # May 29th, 2008 at 6:16 pm

This is a great victory for all 6 Mac users who don’t use it for schoolwork.

  43. jasonpeinko - # May 29th, 2008 at 11:15 pm

Wii and PSP would be stupid, i doubt psp could handle it, and the wii just sucks, plus homebrew is just getting started and i doubt data would pay for an sdk just to port.

  44. brinlarden - # May 30th, 2008 at 4:53 am

port to linux! so i can play on eeepc or the pandora im getting :)

  45. enzo - # May 30th, 2008 at 11:16 am

  49. Jack The Llama Commando - # May 31st, 2008 at 7:19 am

DRL with all its publicity, is loosing its small tight knit community feel.
    Daw.

  50. Roy-g-biv - # May 31st, 2008 at 9:13 am

    @47 : Hiro cares.

@48 : DRLFF was small enough in 2007, there’s wayy more people now, and because of these last two interviews, I think we will have much much much more members.

  51. Fooby - # May 31st, 2008 at 9:15 am
