Nah. But really enjoy the money that you’re making, but don’t waste it all, CC funds won’t stay in forever.

And don’t crap out on us either. Just because people have already payed for CC doesn’t mean that you can take your money and leave… you have a reputation and a fanbase to keep up.

you seem to go on TIGS as much as I do, and I don’t have anything to do! you seem to alert derek on a lot of things :/

I don’t like voxelstien 3d, not very fun to stab things about a million times to get anywhere, so I made the knife automatic lol, digs through walls like butter. also it’s way to mouse sensitive, I set them to 0.1 in the config.

think you could teach me a little about programming c++? I have a book but it says a basic knowledge of c++ is needed… DAMN YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!! (the book)

My thoughts are simple. Do whatever you need to do to make yourself happy to get Cortex Command as good as possible for as long as possible as effectively as possible.

In other words, if buying an AK-47 makes you that much more interested in working on Cortex Command, or provides the entertainment you need in between work to do the most work, then great. Just make sure you keep your eye on the ball.

I trust you and your intent enough that I was willing to give you my money. Use it well. As long as you keep your eye on the ball, I’ll be happy with my investment.

Oh, and NEED NEXT BUILD. My anticipation is nearly palpable.

Data, you said you have the source code for that bloody zombies game, it looks like you can get the source for this one.. Will CC see anything like this? Resource-cheap liquid pixel physics looked possible with the bloody zombies one.

Good god I hope CC can further accelerate its physics. The day when I can run Icelands with two extra snow emitters on hard and get almost no lag with perfectly smooth buildup is the day I’ll be satisfied. Think it’s possible Data?

Oh, quick side note. You’ll have to pardon me for not keeping up with things, but will Lua allow for effects to be rendered in the background, such as falling snow and rain? Because when it comes right down to it, the best way of doing it is a split, something like 1/4 solid layer and reactive and something like 3/4 background just for looks. A ratio something like that allows for a heavy looking snow/rain while still having enough actually collide and splash/buildup that it’s more than just a background effect. Or at least in my opinion.

I do like this game, and have payed for it as soon as I could, like many others have, and will continue to check for updates every now and then. but if you end up making more games later on down the line, I probably won’t be picking it up.

I don’t really see why so many are getting mad about the gun, sense if you really got it, it could help with getting the sounds and how things react to be more realistic.
but what’s putting me off, is how mostly I’ve been seeing mocking of the buyers in general, just because of how SOME of them act.

to those who feel the need to rush Data along with his game. Grow up and learn to have some patients. just because he could have it done if he worked on it every free moment he has, doesn’t mean that he needs to, or even should. I do however agree that a short progress report every now and then would be nice, but again, nowhere does it say that he even needs to do that.

anyway, I’m still looking forward to seeing the game finished however long it takes. and if anyone wants to flame me over this post, be my guest, as it doesn’t really matter, and will likely just reinforce what I already know about you.

He’s probably just not telling us about the progress. Like someone said earlier, you say nothing in particular, and then BAM, surprise them with an update. It’s standard behavior, mostly because it takes some of the stress off the developer.

Making things is an odd process. It often involves short bursts of the actually difficult specific stuff, with long periods of more menial tasks and testing to make sure it works properly. If you drop a rock 100 times, and one of those times it wildly reacts when it hits the ground, there’s something wrong. But you wouldn’t have known that if you hadn’t dropped that rock 100 times.

That’s what beta testing is for. Spread it among thousands of people and suddenly what would have been you dropping a rock a thousand times becomes thousands of people dropping a rock a couple times. Not to mention they’ll drop it in ways you never could have anticipated.

Here’s a quick question, hopefully with the next build we’ll get many more maps cropping up. Think it would be possible to expand the map selector to use a directory structure that can be defined for each scene? You would have certain themes, Grass, Desert, Ice, Space, and then any groups, like campaigns and the like. Would be best if we can have directories in directories, too.

I don’t think its possible to move a post to a higher number by deleting things underneath it. Unless he was removing some kind of “anti-spam” or something. (Much like antimatter) With a game this physics oriented, you never know.

Also, god damnit, my Cortex needs next build. And talking like a Daktaklakpak in that earlier post only helped momentarily. Between waiting for this and Galactic Civilizations 2: Twilight of the Arnor, which both will have a great increase in modability…. (assuming I understand things properly) I’m at the edge of my seat.

Awesome, I expect that we’ll be getting better weaponry further down the road. Hit a few for me.
And also, to you whiny sons of bitches- we already have build 20, and we still haven’t fully realized its potential. Remember when Blipflip first made the Homing Missile? That was in what, b15? We have more stuff to play with now. If a homing device could be simulated well back then, then why is everyone here whining about the lack of new vanilla content while there’s still more stuff to be made by the community using our current tools?

But you’re the boss, so it’s your choice. Still, update please! I’m drooling at the thought of the next build!

Also, will it be possible for you to release a second update not too long after with requests from the community to improve the Lua implementation? Wouldn’t be too hard, and would REALLY help the community and modders.

Math is cool for a little while but gets boring fast. Doing the same problem 50 times = not fun. Or at least, not when that problem requires 20 steps, all of which are boring.

Science, on the other hand, jumps forward in leaps and bounds. If you actually think about all the things they are able to tell you with reasonable certainty, it is nothing short of astounding.

Math starts fun, gets boring, and then comes back with a vengeance once you get past the repetition. Science starts decent, grows, and then starts expanding so fast it’ll hit you outta nowhere. Just wait until you hear about Cnidaria.

History is only fascinating if done right, which it never is, and if you consider it as the biological science of the result of evolution, in which case it too is astounding. But they never do this, they just yak and yak about how cool Abraham Lincoln was (he was) and how fore thinking the founding fathers of America were. (Pretty fore thinking. Why? Because they took things the ROMANS had done and used them. Everyone in Europe was going “Ew, Rome. Weren’t they pagan monsters?” America’s early rulers went “Wait, what? These guys kicked ass. Let’s do what they did.”)

Gym type things are never “fascinating” on the level that other intellectual pursuits are. Gym classes are more of a Zen thing. It’s not about the logic, its about the existence, it’s about flexing, using, and training one’s body. This is why it pisses me off when intelligent people seem to think they’re too good for Gym. Too good for Zen and too good for physical strength? You have fun with that, I’ll train myself in ALL aspects, not only my intellectual disciplines.

And as I asked earlier, can we expect you to release a second new build a little after the first to add in a few requested features to the Lua implementation? They’re very different things really. Swords and spears are awesome in their own right, but AK-47s and Desert Eagles can be amazing too. Well, there are other guns I like better. Hopefully more of the guns in finished CC will be futuristic and awesome.

Also, once we’ve got scene Lua, we can make hero characters on single character maps. (Like the brain-mech would likely be.) That means a single character with high health and absurdly powerful weapons. Maybe removing the right click menu and giving a second weapon? (Putting reload on the R key, and Q and E for switching weapons.) Would also need health pickups or something to extend the fight. No one likes it when they have to try to conserve every last health point. That just means that instead of having ridiculously awesome battles you have to sit back and pick off your enemies. Slowly. And boringly.

Remember Data, EVERYBODY likes a little bit of easy here and there, as long as there’s hard in between and the whole thing is tied together by something that keeps the player playing. So don’t be afraid to make long segments of 20+ rooms with badly equipped clones for slaughtering that lead up to the complex parts. They’re just fun ways for people to experiment with new ways of slaughtering.

@183 I’ve been playing Dwarf Fortress. It’s a completely different kind of game though.
It’s still unfinished, has a bad interface and very little graphics, but it’s gameplay is well done, and the maker isn’t charging for it.

oh yeah, and the best part, their dev logs let you know they’re actually working on the game :p

I’m starting to wonder what sort of work is being done. Other indie developers that I donate to not only give rewards for donation, but keep almost daily dev-logs. I donated money to promote and support development, but I find that the dev-logs are not only few and far between, but not exactly helpful to me as someone who donated.
