  2. Lord Tim - # May 21st, 2008 at 10:55 pm

    Epic.

  3. Lord Tim - # May 21st, 2008 at 11:08 pm

Also, you should update the front page’s devlog thing.

  4. Grif - # May 21st, 2008 at 11:10 pm

    Cool, congratulations Data.

Now then, B21 next thursday or sooner k

  5. Data - # May 21st, 2008 at 11:12 pm

Tim, just need to get around to making it read the RSS feed on its own…. haven’t bothered since too busy working on the game.

  6. ChJees - # May 21st, 2008 at 11:20 pm

By the way Data, will you allow local variables on MOs and Weapons?

Oh and grats for the interview :).

  7. lmsyhmic - # May 21st, 2008 at 11:28 pm

Nice now your getting to the top champ.

  8. Azukki - # May 21st, 2008 at 11:50 pm

    @ Data #5
No complaints from me about that.

    Although the campaign metagame…

Robotic head replacement should be entertaining… and might make in game armor upgrades possible? That could be pretty cool.

Although I don’t get the artifacts thing. There was once a native civilization on this planet?
Infiltrating a bunker to steal designs does sound fun.
But for devices, I would think that they could be reverse-engineered up at the tradestar.

  9. carpet_ninja - # May 22nd, 2008 at 12:59 am

looks great! keep up the good work data were all behind you

the campaign meta game would be good if there are more than just missions to fight in (otherwise we would get bored) , as in: enemy corp sets up outpost on random location taking them out is optional but it save time later, and an acient artifact has been accidentaly activated and it has rissen an ancient (put generic ancient army type here), you could also have pods of test animals from labs droping in stray holding pods (im thinking radioactive aliens and aliens with miniguns implanted into there arms that you could befriend or kill for extra recources although these would be rare).

    thanks for reading

  10. Skiv - # May 22nd, 2008 at 2:22 am

Gratz for the interview. Good luck on your future endavour :)

  11. zacness - # May 22nd, 2008 at 2:30 am

    Heaps cool.

I just feel sorry for those poor wolfire forum members, who have to wait 2 months+ at a time for a devlog update.

    And yeah, what Tim said.

  12. Duel - # May 22nd, 2008 at 2:43 am

ooh, what’s the artwork in the top right of the article? ive never seen that before!

  13. Turunen45 - # May 22nd, 2008 at 3:47 am

Awesome article. the idea of artefacts and treasures sounds cool.

  14. Tobeh - # May 22nd, 2008 at 4:04 am

  15. Creed - # May 22nd, 2008 at 4:21 am

  16. Seraph - # May 22nd, 2008 at 4:48 am

Wicked interview man, sounds brilliant so far!

  17. brinlarden - # May 22nd, 2008 at 5:13 am

the campaign sounds completely different from how i imagined it…
    it sounds cooler infact.

and finaly cortex command is getting the exposure it deserves.
sounds so epic, the part about having to break into heavily fortified bunkers ect. :D

  18. robolee - # May 22nd, 2008 at 5:35 am

very nice, new art :) and more plot revealed (though I kinda thought it would be mostly like that anyway.

Though I hope this doesn’t stop the new feature thing that should be revealed today.

  19. DudeGuy - # May 22nd, 2008 at 5:54 am

Amazing, can’t wait for the new weapons, tools, and actors. Can’t wait for the Brain-Swapping with robots, the artifact retrieving. And basically EVERYTHING.

And I never knew you had never actually met Promster.

  20. whitty - # May 22nd, 2008 at 5:54 am

    congrats Data!

  21. Tea - # May 22nd, 2008 at 6:45 am

    Sounds exciting!

  22. DavQC - # May 22nd, 2008 at 6:47 am

Yaaah! this’ll pwn everything! I’m playing Cortex sice the build 7 and has never been this awesome(altrough it was already)

  23. zacness - # May 22nd, 2008 at 6:55 am

Whats all this business in the top right corner?

Big red guy shooting at black ninja master-chief guy.

  24. shalafi - # May 22nd, 2008 at 7:31 am

DAn TAbar aka DATA?! I thought “Data” was for it’s meaning in english.
Also, the background of the photo is a waterfall? cool pic then.

  25. Lord Tim - # May 22nd, 2008 at 8:14 am

@20: Looks more like one of Prom’s please-please-please-remake-one-of-my-favorite-old-games-in-this-case-X-COM-UFO-thingy-game-based-on-my-awesome-concept-art pictures.

  26. Numgun - # May 22nd, 2008 at 8:18 am

Unlockable stuff? Oh hell yes. This suits my plan so hard.
Please do make a way for us modders to make unlockable stuff too that in certain ways you can achieve in the game to get it.

Also if possible, do NOT hardcode the campaign map to the planet and its segments and the moon orbiting it. Make it so that anyone could change it into a wide map of different planets, galaxies and starmaps or just a single large area where there would be coordinated points to access that mission. This is to give us more freedom when making the “world map” view. It can be absolutely anything!

  27. Overcast - # May 22nd, 2008 at 8:23 am

As soon as B21 comes out I’m buying the game.

You can only go on B18 for so long.

  28. zalo - # May 22nd, 2008 at 8:25 am

This will be just plain awesome.

    I’m surprised at our modding
community that we are too lazy
to do a lot of these things
    right now.

  29. Cado - # May 22nd, 2008 at 8:30 am

HELL YES OSX PORT!!! I’ve been running parallels on my mac to play this game, but my machine doesn’t exactly have the power to run two OSs and a game entirely smoothy, so its been running pretty slowly. I have had the pleasure of playing it on my friend’s computer, which ran it fine, so I’m lucky enough to have enjoyed it to its full potential, but being able to do so without my friend around would be awesome!!!

  30. Foaboegik - # May 22nd, 2008 at 8:31 am

Hooray! A look behind the scenes, and you remind me of Uncle Joe except with brown hair and no thinning!

  31. brinlarden - # May 22nd, 2008 at 8:43 am

so when we getting the info on the debris?
    next week now?

  32. Durza - # May 22nd, 2008 at 9:12 am

Can. not. wait. Sounds as though the next build will be a big one, does that mean a price increase?

  33. 3 Liquid - # May 22nd, 2008 at 9:40 am

    Brain evacuation…

    Hehehehehe…

    Me want.

  34. NovaNoah - # May 22nd, 2008 at 10:43 am

    Yay, Cool magazine too.

  35. Hiro - # May 22nd, 2008 at 1:11 pm

    Yay…
highest platform on the list is Mac…can’t wait to play it directly in OSX.

  36. byp4ss - # May 22nd, 2008 at 1:52 pm

Haha. No offence, but where I come from, your last name (tabar) means loser. :D

  37. FireBlizzard/DragonHero - # May 22nd, 2008 at 2:21 pm

Cant wait too actually play part of the campaign =3

  38. Chaos Theory - # May 22nd, 2008 at 2:52 pm

It looks like there will be some interesting things in the future, there’s just one problem with the interview; unless I missed it, they didn’t put a website for their readers to find the game!

  39. Numgun - # May 22nd, 2008 at 3:27 pm

@28 Youre wrong there Zalo. Most of us have a real life and school finals and all that other shit, and in addition to that, there are also other games that we play besides CC and many people just dont know how to mod or those that do, might lack skill or creativity in general. And also a very good and creative mod takes alot of time and energy to create by a modder.

Also… im really liking this “brain can connect with a robot” scheme. Instead of a brain, we could like have a normal guy and large tank that could be the “robot” providing more firepower, protection and lots more.
    Another source of infinate possibilities.

  40. aspect - # May 22nd, 2008 at 3:59 pm

He says some of those robots will be better at carrying the brain then others.

    Brain mech anyone?

But if there will be multiple factions, then will you be able to enter the campaign as anyone of them and play it out, or will you be stuck with one throughout the campaign?

  41. Anonymous - # May 22nd, 2008 at 4:00 pm

I thought we were getting a more imeddiate update on B21, not just a bunch of fantasies of Data, oh well…guess there’s always next year when the build will finally hit us.

  42. Omni - # May 22nd, 2008 at 4:40 pm

He said going to be implemented or already implemented. And the more difficult feature he mentioned he showed a screenshot for. Don’t worry, it’s not fantasies. :)

As for the brain mech, how about the mechs used for brainmechs are actually unrelated assault mechs most of the time. Then, when they take a brain in, they open their chest cavity and become bigger, tougher and more imposing, but slower. That’d be sweeeeet.

Transformations for when brains are translated would be awesome. Maybe giving every brain-compatible actor an extra set of brain stats for when carrying a brain, too. As long as you can’t exploit them to heal your old actors.

  43. neoseeker - # May 22nd, 2008 at 5:54 pm

wow, DAn TAbar… why don’t people tell me these things… that’s an awesome way to make an alias

  44. robolee - # May 22nd, 2008 at 6:38 pm

YES!! just noticed the FOUR PLAYER CO-OP IN CAMPAIGN in one of the screenshots… actually I don’t know why I’m happy about that… I have no friends.

  45. robolee - # May 22nd, 2008 at 6:39 pm

Also Neoseeker, not quite… mine would be “lewh”… isn’t quite that good

  46. neoseeker - # May 22nd, 2008 at 6:42 pm

I mean and to have it work too.

  47. Anonymous - # May 22nd, 2008 at 7:19 pm

@41, I think you can use the standard Robo 1 and Robo 2 but he could make a giant mech like the one seen with the brain in the opening concept art. I like the new moon concept art, maybe some official moon scenes?

Also, Data, I hate to ask twice but how much extra content such as maps, actors and weapons should we except in B21? How many extra bunker parts are you planning?

  48. The Adviser - # May 22nd, 2008 at 7:42 pm

    @42
Well mine would be HEFRIN which sounds ok compared to others that it could have been.

So it looks like DATA has decided to do weekly posts which I think is 1337|\|322!!*

*What is N in leet speek?

  49. Azukki - # May 22nd, 2008 at 8:44 pm

    @ Adviser 47
    Idiotic looking, like everything else.

  50. Foaboegik - # May 22nd, 2008 at 10:14 pm

Can’t wait! And can you redo missions?
And can you make the Brain Holder detach the brain AT ANYTIME?
    Like Brain Bowling?

  51. Foaboegik - # May 22nd, 2008 at 10:26 pm

Or have objects that you can use to attach to the robot.
    Continuing the bowling idea …

  52. Foaboegik - # May 22nd, 2008 at 10:31 pm

Pelt the non-believers with the robot compatible objects!
Heh, it’s better than throwing, it goes farther, and hurts allot more!

Send In the Molotov Squad, we got medieval attackers!
    *Robots Flinging Molotov Head Objects*
Thinks this is the end of the Bowling idea …

  53. XDevil - # May 23rd, 2008 at 7:57 am

    huh…. loks lolig…

  54. XDevil - # May 23rd, 2008 at 7:57 am

    *looks
    P.S.
    sorry 4 doupblepost xD

  55. PlasmaNova - # May 23rd, 2008 at 12:26 pm

With the sicky particle to the in game lua console,
this next build is gonna be anazing. The mods will definately be interesting as well.

Also, congrats on the Play magazine review Data!

  56. GranPC - # May 23rd, 2008 at 2:35 pm

    I’d like a Linux port.

By the way, I have a question: Have you ever thought of selling CC’s sourcecode in a CD or something?

  57. MayheM - # May 23rd, 2008 at 3:23 pm

Shame on Play for leaving you off the front page! There’s a NARUTO GAME ON THEIR FOR CRYIN’ OUT LOUD!

And not giving a website (unless I just missed it), that’s a little unexcusable…

Never liked that magazine anyway. BUT… FINALLY getting some well deserved recognition. Also, DESCRIPTION OF METAGAME WINS EVERYTHING! I can’t wait.

  58. robolee - # May 23rd, 2008 at 6:03 pm

why would he do that? “Hey here’s over 7 years of my life on a CD, I’ll sell it to you so that you can modify it and then sell it yourself, taking away from my profit.”

    I don’t think so.

  59. Omni - # May 24th, 2008 at 12:13 am

Absolutely can’t wait for this next update. Excitement for me; my brother is getting married tomorrow. That should be interesting. I’ll be giving a little speech. :)

Can’t wait for the next build. It’s going to be DYNOMYYYYTE.

  60. GranPC - # May 24th, 2008 at 3:05 am

@58, Robolee… No, just no. I don’t think anybody is going to be so stupid to buy a bad game. Anyways it would have copyright; wouldn’ti t? It could be for even more advanced modding purposes (see: Introversion Software)

  61. robolee - # May 24th, 2008 at 4:30 am

you’d be surprised at the amount of stupid poeple in this world.

Also I hope you don’t mean that CC is a bad game, but that the modifications would be bad, because if you do then you have no idea as to what makes a game good, and are probably a 3d gamer.

  62. GranPC - # May 24th, 2008 at 5:06 am

@robolee: I meant what you mean about a guy selling CC edited. Nobody’s going to be so stupid to buy a game without having played it first. Are you seriously using your brain?

  63. KeroroCanti - # May 24th, 2008 at 12:08 pm

Do I detect a massive flood of new fans? Things are really looking up for Data Realms lately!

  64. Grif - # May 24th, 2008 at 12:40 pm

If you put the source code on a disc, anyone could buy it, compile it, and get the game FOR FREE.

Which is absolutely retarded since this is a commercial product.

Damn near everything will be possible. Any “more advanced modding” will have to wait until CC is so old Data doesn’t need to sell it anymore.

  65. robolee - # May 24th, 2008 at 12:53 pm

    @Gran

oh sorry I can’t read the -invisible text- that says “By “bad game” I of course mean their opinion on the game after they have played a trial.”

Seriously, even the smartest of people can misinterpret something, especially when it isn’t EVEN THERE to interpret in the first place. you can’t try out many games anyway so it’s not exactly common sense.

Also there are many rip off products on the market that stupid people will buy instead of the higher priced original.

  66. robolee - # May 24th, 2008 at 12:54 pm

Also who says they would even offer a trial if it is in fact just a fraudulent product.

  67. CaveCricket48 - # May 24th, 2008 at 6:05 pm

Ok, let’s try to stay on topic. Anyway, I’m happy to hear that CC’s starting to get more popular. I also have an idea for Build 21: Ropes. They could be like sticky particles that are stuck to other particles in a line.

  68. Foaboegik - # May 24th, 2008 at 7:14 pm

    @^& How about sticky traps/walls.

  69. Foaboegik - # May 24th, 2008 at 7:14 pm

    I mean ‘@67′

  70. Hiro - # May 24th, 2008 at 7:43 pm

How about sticky landing pads for rockets that are safer than landing on bumpy ground?

  71. carpet_ninja - # May 25th, 2008 at 2:20 am

@70: i like that idea, we could also make some kind of docking system in which it clamps onto the lower rocket, if lua will let you/us do this of course

  72. Flying Pig - # May 25th, 2008 at 7:39 am

Kinda random and it might be said before…… We know what you look like now lol.
Well anyways gj on this game and keep it coming.

  73. MayheM - # May 25th, 2008 at 11:38 pm

@71: From what I understand about LUA, and considering that Data has said almost all classes will be exposed, I imagine that nearly ANYTHING would be possible, provided you have the programming skills and don’t try to push the game too much, for example, water still isn’t feasible, I wouldn’t think, simply because it would require too much CPU for just about anyone…

That idea doesn’t sound too hard too implement anyway, though, so I’d say 90% odds it’ll happen.

  74. carpet_ninja - # May 26th, 2008 at 2:22 am

@73: i imagine thats what everyone will be trying to make, well most of us anyway, it will be like the quest for the holy grail :D

  75. MayheM - # May 26th, 2008 at 4:45 pm

It would definitely help, there’s nothing worse than having your brain busted by your opponent because your troops are getting fried and crushed by their own delivery rockets…

  76. Omni - # May 26th, 2008 at 5:44 pm

Dying to see this next build. It’s going to be amazing.

  77. Ollieh - # May 26th, 2008 at 11:40 pm

Nice, can’t wait to see those new races and the campaign.

  78. neoseeker - # May 27th, 2008 at 9:05 pm

Good luck with getting it in the next 3 builds lol…

  79. sircooper45 - # June 14th, 2008 at 12:34 pm

    sweet
