Post Re: Cortex Command - Two Computers, 1 Game
The biggest problem I see for playing with another player is the mouse. I guess there isn't any set up possible for a PC to support 2 mouses, and the game have 2 different screens that differ one from another. The game could also adjust to a bigger size in the monitor, when using 2 players split screen setup, for more area view. Why do the split screen visualization need to be so much limited compared to singleplayer, when still there is a lot of space in the monitor that could be used? If I try to increase it with Alt + Enter it will just make the resolution lower, and the visualization is the same.

I can't imagine anyone playing this without a mouse. I have 2 PCs here in LAN, and the mouse is the only reason Ill try that. I hope I can manage to get it right and there isn't much lag.

a lot of people play with a keyboard. i dont, but there is kind of a division between players who use the kb and players that use the mouse.
so: find a friend you disagree with.

Big idea, aka the (Not so) perfect recipe for no-lag multiplayer:

    - No generic particle (Gun shot on sand, earth, etc. won't make particles fly away)
    - Digging possibilities, but remove only 4X4 pixels at a time
    - Bombs uses pre-coded explosions rather than flying particles (Okay I know it would suck but that's better than nothing...)
    - Unit limit
    - Smaller maps

it won't keep solo's awesomeness, but it's fine for me, as long as there's a multiplayer.

IMO, It's a realistic shot at what could possibly be online CC.

Well, it's not so much the Particles flying around that is the problem.

You need to send the terrain and the destruction of it over the internet as an image.

Since not everybody's computers process it the same way, just sending the MOs over
the internet and having the client do the destruction calculations would not work properly.

So less particles flying around, doesn't really matter. It's the terrain destruction that's the big problem.

How do game like worms do it, then?

Depends. I think Worms must do it where exploding projectiles are sent as a blip to the other clients, so that they can spawn an explosion at the same point. That, or when worms do anything it is sent as a blip.
Liero, and its various clones, doesn't always sync right, even under the best of conditions. I've seen many cases where people are digging or floating through imaginary or nonexistent dirt. I imagine they send over the line the position of objects like Cortex would do, but they have far fewer objects running around.

VNC.

Bit slower(I think it's some integration thing), but works.

And you can play CC on Linux.

No!
What a silly idea.

(For starters the G beginning word and C beginning word are the wrong way around :V)

I've been thinking.

Someone should make a map/mod/mode for cortex command which has no destructable terrain at all.
that'd make multiplayer considerably easier, would it not?

Except for the fact that CC will always, no matter what, check every particle of the terrain every frame.

Also, even things made out of test can be forced out of the way by MOs; this is usually what causes them ridiculous damage.

You're so ridiculously...
Like a crowd of rams. Someone told that there's no online game and you don't even try.
I'm playing Cortex with my friends via Radmin already over a 2 months.
So, so ridiculously...

Have you even read some of the posts above you?

Secondly, remote desktop uses some hidden functions in windows, so it's usally faster.

Second in speed is VNC solutions, there was one that even installed a driver for speed reasons.

EDIT:
Oh, and op was from last year.
