OK, I tested this with logmein over the internet with a 1mbps(1000/8=125KBps) of upload connection.

Even tough it was not very successful, I got about 1/2 an fps, which was better than what I thought.

It seams that to run without major lag it would take about 4-5 times of more upload and with the current internet connection development that means about 2-3 years.

So for now you should stick to Single player/LAN.

btw.

A LAN connection will give you at it's max(assuming you are a normal person with a 10/100 card) 12.5MBps(100mbps/8).

Wat. I live right here in 2008, and yet i have 10 megabit per second, up and down?
...
Maybe i should try it somehow... Preferrably someone with a rather high download speed,
who's not living too far away from me.
LAN is still ten times faster though.

Edit: And no, before you say it, i'm not trying to enlarge my e-penis.

Of course I say that following the connections in my own country.
Currently you can only have 1mbps of upload even with 30mb of download, so yeah Portuguese ISP's are a bunch of lazy bastards.

Some places somewhere in the world already have fiber-optic.

If you could test it I think everyone would appreciate the feedback.

Ahh, i see. Sorry for my reaction :P
But first things first, i need someone to test it with. Which isn't going to be very easy.
As far as i know, one can't internet with oneself. Unless there's some kind of neat trick
to do. I'll think of something... I think.

It's ok, ISP bastards will always be ISP bastards xP

Maybe with a virtual machine runing windows, that would probably work (at least i think it would).

btw
I am willing to test if you are :P

If anyone's nearby the CA Bay Area with an obscene upload speed that wants to try this, I'm game.

A note about ISPs: networking technology is capable of supporting, like, 100mb/sec. Korea and Japan have connections like that by default. Its just that ISPs elsewhere are corporate jackholes that artificially cap the bandwidth because they don't see the profit in turning it up all the way at the moment.

There are some communities in the US that are starting to set up their own 100mb/sec internet as a utility, like water and electricity. With those kinds of speeds, CC over the net would actually be feasible.

Stupid corporations. They don't think/care about the fact that they're actually slowing down society in general like this. They're making us inefficient!

That's true, I'm working at some ISP and they only increase the bandwith when some other ISP increases their bandwith while also making it cheaper... :???:

Only way to speed this up would be to spam all those callcenters of every single ISP with "I WANT FASTER INTERNET, AND I WANT IT NOW!" calls...

I hope you know there is a large difference between megabit and megabyte. ISPs advertise their services as 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 etc mb/s which at 10 means about one megabyte per second.

And you're going to get about half that on up.

Also, me and kelas tried this back before you had to build your own bunkers. He managed to get one of the robots he started with to fly across the map and fall.

I've wanted to do something like this for a different game that also only supported multiplayer on the same PC, but I could never get Remote Desktop to work. (Perhaps it has something to do with Vista, or the clients that are attempting to connect.)

Helluva bump you did there.

However, staff is getting more lenient on 'necroing', so unless it's a useless bumping post.. don't report it for now.

It's probable your router. My router has this stupid firewall that refuses to pass trough any incoming connections. So like hosting a CS:S server always fails for me

Except that has nothing to do with this topic. As Joppu said, that tends to be the problem when trying to host things.

Man thanks for necroing bumping this thread, I totally wanted to worship thank zalo for his amazing-ness

When I play CC over my LAN it still lags like a little every few seconds. Odd.

Could be a program running in the Background like Steam
or a Broswer or an Instant Messaging client Et cetera.

Also, I found that when I try to play online remote desktop
the cut scenes run smoothly even on my slow connection....
until the game starts.

Double Also, Screenshots converted to to CC palette are around 300 Kb
probably online worthy with some compression.

Otoy is making a realtime application where all it does is send images from
its server of the clouds to any computer. http://www.otoy.com/site/start.htm Crazy stuff.
